Wonderful article! Fantastic music. Wish I could be in Lima to enjoy all the amazing Peruvian culinary treats you described.

I enjoyed this post so much! Thank you for including links to all the musical selections and videos. Now I'd like to read it again, but while eating all the foods you describe! And hope that maybe one day I get a chance to dance and eat at a jarana myself.

I always learn so much from your writings. Didn't know anything about criollos, although I live in Nueva Mexico! And the music is fabulous. Dancing to music while cooking -- I'll give it a try. Thanks!

Fabulous beats. I was born in Africa and I once spent Christmas in Zulu land in SA where about 2000 drummers gathered for the celebrations. Incredible. The energy. I got a bit of that kind of excitement from your post. Great voices. Didn’t know about these people. Thanks .

Thank you! Happy to hear my post evoked such powerful memories. There are so many culinary and musical connections among the African Diaspora, and it's a pleasure to share about Afro-Peruvian culture. 🙌🏾 🙏🏽
